For women with brown and darker skin tones who have ever tried to buy pantyhose, they already know how frustrating it can be to find shades that compliment chocolate girls. “Nude” is never nude and “natural” is a questionable color, too. Shimmer is usually the go-to.
While the pantyhose scavenger hunt continues on for a quest to find "cocoa" colors, makeup has come a much longer way. A few shades of pink and red can be complimentary, but finding more complimentary colors in bronze, darker reds and golds tend to work better depending on complexion.
Hit “Motivation” singer Kelly Rowland is coming to the rescue with an upcoming cosmetics line. According to Essence magazine, the launch date isn’t official, but she’s already got an idea in mind of what it’ll look like.

“My makeup artist Sheika Daley and I are actually starting a makeup line we’re making sure we make, well, we’re starting off with lashes and then we’re going to have it grow for all women,” Rowland told Essence. “But definitely making sure we have our chocolate girls covered. Gotta get the chocolate girls in there! We have to have that, you know. I think Iman has done a beautiful makeup line and I want to do it too!”
But she’s not the only one. Here are four other celebrity makeup brands that cater to women with a variety of brown hues.

Janelle Monae’s CoverGirl collection
The “Tightrope” singer is one of the latest CoverGirl models. Her Trublend Liquid Makeup foundation line has light, medium and deep options. Check out her Lipslicks Smoochies Sizzle Gloss and Lashblast Volume Mascara, too. She is always ready for a pouty, red lip.
About the artist: With the co-signing of legendary singer Prince and mega producer Diddy, Janelle Monae struck out on her own in music, fashion, hair and makeup. But music listeners know her best for her “Q.U.E.E.N.” featuring Erykah Badu and “Yoga” singles. She can also be seen crooning along with Outkast’s Big Boi in the single “Morris Brown.”

Demi Lovato’s New York Color collection
Demi Lovato looked out for brown girls, too. One glance at her New York Color collection of Lovatics eye shadow and IndividualEyes makes it pretty clear that she knows the difference between “natural” and natural-looking makeup for women of all shades. The lip colors are a bit on the bright side for lower-key days, but the Ultra Moist Cafe and Mocha are pretty inviting.
About the artist: She definitely spoke her mind as one of the judges on “X Factor,” but music fans know her best as the “Confident” singer on “Really Don’t Care,” “Don’t Forget,” “Sky Scraper” and “Heart Attack.”
